KAROLINA
ŠUŠA

Dancer, Actress & Singer

Karolina is a dancer, singer and performer with a strong inclination towards interdisciplinary theatre. She is also a teacher, a movement coach and a producer of her recent work. She graduated from Zagreb University and holds an MA in English and Comparative Literature, but has dedicated most of her professional life to performance and performance production. She has been a member of Croatian Freelance Artists’ Association since 2011 after having studied with the Plesni ansambl and the Contemporary Dance Studio in Zagreb, under the direction of Selma Banich and others. Karolina has taken part in numerous dance and theatre productions in Croatia and beyond. Some of her favourite collaborations are those with Jonah Bokaer on Other Myths that toured in USA, France, Greece, Bulgaria, Hungary; with Caravan Stage Company on Utopian Floes that took her down the Danube River all the way from Vienna to Istanbul on a theatre ship called Amara Zee. She has also had the privilege to work with outstanding Croatian choreographers such as Natalija Manojlović, Irma Omerzo, Rajko Pavlić, Selma Banich, Senka Bulić, Žak Valenta. She has produced and choreographed her own project called Cabaret à la carte that has quite successfully been touring Croatia. It is a powerful women’s collective comprised of fine musicians and exceptional dancers. Karolina has choreographed a rock opera Hocus Pocus in Varaždin National Theatre and coached movement for Ionesco’s Rhinoceros in Split National TheatreShe has taught movement and dance in Šibenik and Split to children, adults and professionals. She has co-founded Tras Collective, gathered around the idea of inverting the hierarchical theatre practice through producing their own works and inviting compatible choreographers/directors, and co-organised the large-scale music festival Opatijske Barufe in her hometown, Opatija. Karolina was also an artist in residency at the Robert Wilson’s Watermill Center in NY in 2016. Since the beginning of the pandemic, she has developed an online children’s channel with a new alter-ego, Kate koju znate (Kate, the one you know).
